Jennifer Love Hewitt may be rockin’ a bikini on our cover, but she has the same insecurities as every woman. “I’m a girl, after all!” says the 30-year-old actress. “For the most part, yeah, I’m happy with my body, but there are days when I’m like, ‘Ugh! Really? Why is it so hard to fit into my jeans?’ That’s when I say to myself, ‘I look this way because I’m supposed to. If we all looked the same, we’d be boring.'” Here, she reveals her stay-healthy-and-happy strategies as well as her workout that she uses to stay slim and confident.

Put your fridge on a diet. To keep her food choices healthy and fresh, Jennifer hits the supermarket every two days. “Instead of piling up food in my fridge that says ‘Come eat me!’ I keep enough for only a couple of days. And I rarely have treats around that might tempt me late at night, which is when I usually crave something really fattening. What am I going to do? Drive out at 11 at night just to satisfy a craving? No, that’s crazy.”

Always eat lunch. It’s no secret that over the last few years, young actresses have become fixated on being super thin, a trend Jennifer finds really disturbing. “Hollywood used to revolve around women with curves, like Liz Taylor and Marilyn Monroe,” she says. “But now it’s so different. Not that long ago, I went to this celebrity luncheon, and I was the only person in the room eating. The other girls looked at me like I hadn’t gotten the memo, but I was hungry! All of these girls were afraid that if someone saw them eating, it would be a disaster. It makes no sense at all.”

Give yourself a good talking-to. Ever since turning 30 in February, Jennifer’s been practicing the art of positive thinking. At night she says five things she finds sexy about herself. “I fall asleep feeling beautiful,” she says. “Then, in the morning, before I leave the house, I say five things I love about myself, like ‘You have really pretty eyes.’ That way I can go out into the world with that little bit of extra confidence. It’s a feel-good protein shake in my back pocket in case someone messes with me that day.”

Don’t give in to peer pressure. One place you’ll never see Jennifer hanging out is in a Hollywood hot spot with other stars. “I’m not a big party person,” she says. “The idea of working all day then shoving myself into a club with 150 sweaty people who have been drinking sounds like the worst idea ever! At the end of the day, I’d rather just hang out by myself, with my boyfriend [Ghost Whisperer co-star Jamie Kennedy], or with my family.”

Put a spark in your workout. Jennifer’s been dating Jamie for seven months, and they’ve helped each other get fitter. “He’s inspired me to improve my diet,” she says. “He has a salad with every meal, plus lots of fruit, fish, and vegetables.” Jennifer, in turn, has gotten him to exercise more. “Last summer we were in Monaco. Every morning we ran for 40 minutes through the streets of Monte Carlo. It was an amazing way to see the city. Now when we travel, we try to explore the places by running.”

News

When “Ghost Whisperer” returns tonight for its fifth season, it will be five years in the future, and Melinda (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Jim (David Conrad) are the parents of a five-year-old son Aiden (Connor Gibbs). “We felt that we could tell more interesting stories with Jim and Melinda’s child being five years old,” Hewitt tells ET’s Mark Steines, who is on the set of the hit CBS series.

That said, fans of the show will remember that earlier, Melinda didn’t want to have a child because she was worried that it would inherit her gift, which brought her a lot of pain when she was a child. But when Jim died and his spirit jumped into another body and, then, it took him a while to remember who he was, Melinda decided she needed a piece of him. “She is overwhelmed,” Hewitt continues. “Her son is special because he is hers, but is he ‘special’ in the ‘Ghost Whisperer’ way?”

Hewitt directs the premiere episode and she jokes, “I am so bossy by nature, it is perfect.” But that isn’t the only way in which she is spreading her wings. She is also the author of a book that will be released in spring of 2010, which she has been working on for four years. “It is my thoughts on dating,” she tells Steines. “Most books are anti-guy. My book is about how guys probably aren’t as wrong as we think — and we should look at ourselves.”

“Ghost Whisperer” returns will all-new episodes tonight at 8 p.m. on CBS.

September 18, 2009   Jennifer   Comments Off on Jennifer Love Hewitt Reveals a ”Ghost Whisperer” Time Shift
News

Friday night is supposed to be a bad night for television, but you wouldn’t know it from the success of “Ghost Whisperer,” premiering its fifth season on Sept. 25. But first, Jennifer Love Hewitt is on the ET stage with Mary Hart to give her the scoop on the new season and boyfriend Jamie Kennedy.

“I followed Jamie on his comedy tour,” Jennifer tells Mary when asked what she did on her hiatus. “I went around with him to tons of cities and I sold T-shirts at his shows.” Jamie is also Jennifer’s co-star. He plays Eli James, who can hear the dead but not see them. “It’s really nice to have someone you love and care about next to you, because we can hold each other up when the schedule gets long and things like that,” Jennifer says.

Mary also gets Jennifer to reveal a surprise from season five: There will be a significant time jump, so Melinda’s (Hewitt) newborn son Aidan will now be five years old and he will share his mother’s gift. “He’s going to be far more gifted than Melinda could ever be,” she says. And that’s not all. Jennifer will be directing more episodes this season, like the season premiere.

Ghost Whisperer’s fifth season premieres Friday, Sept. 25 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
